Grace F. Chao, a 12th-grade student at Pah Tsung Trilingual High School, is known as a high achiever with a strong passion for learning. Beyond her academic achievements in business plan and writing competitions, her core passion stems from traditional music, driving her to stay dedicated to the art throughout her high school years. Her journey began in 6th grade after watching a musical performance that instantly made her fall in love with the Guzheng. She has been practicing the instrument diligently ever since. By 9th grade, Grace was trusted to represent her school in traditional Chinese music performances for Open House events. These experiences inspired her to experiment with blending traditional and pop music, while also helping her build communication, teamwork, and networking skills. One of her most memorable milestones was qualifying alongside her partner to represent Indonesia at The 12th Hong Kong International Music Festival. By exploring the collaboration of traditional instruments, they earned a gold medal. For Grace, this achievement marked the true beginning of her commitment to traditional music. Her path hasn't been without challenges. She continuously balances academics, performance rehearsals, and her social life both in and out of school. Additionally, Grace pioneered the introduction of the Guzheng to Pah Tsung Trilingual High School, serving as an inspiring figure for younger students and guiding cross-grade collaborations. Thanks to Pah Tsung’s strong alumni network, Grace was trusted to represent the school at various Chinese-Indonesian cultural performances, such as The 3rd Anniversary Celebration of the Jiangsu Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia. Following her captivating performance, she earned the opportunity to perform as a soloist at the Mid-Autumn Festival event organized by the Indonesia Shanghai Fellowship Association. Grace leaves readers with this advice: “Don't be afraid to take the road less traveled. Pursue your passion and dreams with all your strength and determination. Above all, never forget the One who gives you strength: God. No matter how great someone's achievements are, we are still human beings who can fail and need time to grow.” Grace's story serves as a reminder that success is more than just academic grades. It is a journey shaped by perseverance, courage, and a humble spirit to keep learning. Wherever she goes, Grace will continue to leave behind a meaningful mark and legacy.
